R.I.P. Israel Moiseevich Gelfand, 1913-2009

One of the greats of 20th century mathematics, and one who by several accounts was an inspiring figure to others.

    a search for ‘Gelfand’ on Tanya Khovanova’s blog ( blog.tanyakhovanova.com ) yields a few stories relating to Gelfand and his seminar. One specifically on (one particular aspect of) the seminar is ‘The Designated Listener’ at blog.tanyakhovanova.com/?p=76
